Olivia’s Manitoba Adventure with Canadian Affair

Olivia’s Manitoba Adventures

At Kyle Travel, we love hearing about amazing trips – and Olivia’s fam trip to Canada sounds like a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

“After a smooth train ride to London Heathrow, I stayed overnight at the Hyatt Place – it was the perfect airport hotel with really easy connections. The next morning, I met up with my group at Air Canada’s Maple Leaf Lounge to relax a bit… and enjoy a cheeky Mimosa before boarding.

We had a last-minute flight change, which meant a quick stop in Calgary – and honestly, it turned into a mini adventure! I loved visiting the Calgary Tower, grabbing drinks at the Fairmont Palliser, and having a lovely dinner downtown. If you ever have a few hours in Calgary, it’s definitely worth exploring.

Finally, we arrived in Winnipeg, and I got a good night’s sleep before kicking off the adventure. First, we went on a waterways tour along the Red and Assiniboine Rivers, then drove out to Riding Mountain National Park. We stopped at the Farmer Estate Brewery to try some local beers before reaching our lakeside accommodation in Wasagaming. The town was so charming, with friendly locals, cosy restaurants, and scenic walks.

The next morning, we met our guide, Pat Rousso, for a bison-spotting tour in the National Park. Seeing these majestic animals grazing freely was definitely a highlight. After that, we had brunch at Camp Cantina – a four-course delight, and the eggs benedict were honestly the best I’ve ever had!

We spent the afternoon exploring Wasagaming by FAT bike, taking in the lake, forest, and wildlife. Later, we visited Turtle Village for a cultural experience with the First Nations, baking bannock bread and learning about the Falcon Bloodline. We finished the day with a relaxing soak at Klas Nordic Spa.

Back in Winnipeg, I stayed at The Inn at the Forks, right next to the bustling Forks Market with its shops, food, and entertainment. Highlights included visiting the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, Assiniboine Park’s zoo and botanical gardens, and the stunning Qaumajuq museum, which has the world’s largest public collection of contemporary Inuit art. I also stumbled across the Back Alley Arctic, a hidden gem of street art celebrating Arctic wildlife.

Before flying home, I visited the Royal Aviation Museum, which was celebrating the Canadian Air Force centenary with hands-on exhibits – perfect for families like mine!”

Why Visit Manitoba?

Winnipeg, the capital of Manitoba, is often overlooked by UK travellers, but it’s packed with culture, adventure, and natural beauty. Stunning national parks, lakes, wildlife, and dynamic city life make it a must-visit. It’s also a gateway to Churchill, the Polar Bear Capital of the world – an unforgettable experience!
